## What this tool does

The Pflegegradrechner guides users step by step through the official 6-module assessment that determines care levels in Germany. The result is a Pflegegrad from 1 (low impairment) to 5 (highest impairment), or no care level if the score is below the threshold. The calculator is non-binding — it estimates what the MDK assessment is likely to yield.

## Assessment modules

The calculation is based on weighted scores across six areas:

1. **Mobility** (Mobilität) — 10 %: posture, transfers, walking, stair climbing
2. **Cognitive and communicative abilities** (Kognitive und kommunikative Fähigkeiten) — 15 %: orientation, memory, decision-making, communication
3. **Behavioural and psychological symptoms** (Verhaltensweisen und psychische Problemlagen) — 15 %: restlessness, aggression, anxiety, depression
4. **Self-care** (Selbstversorgung) — 40 %: washing, dressing, eating, continence (highest-weighted module)
5. **Managing disease-related demands** (Umgang mit krankheitsbedingten Anforderungen) — 20 %: medication, wound care, medical devices, therapy attendance
6. **Structuring everyday life and social contacts** (Gestaltung des Alltagslebens und sozialer Kontakte) — 15 %: daily rhythm, activities, social interaction
